after dinner at 'the mexican place in the mission' that sean had been telling me and addie about since the beginning of the semester, we (being myself, jupei, sean, chris, and addie) were focused on dessert.

jupei and i had agreed on the churro with chocolate dipping sauce. i know, irresistable, right? but the kitchen was out of churro's. whatever.

so addie suggested the indian ice cream place down the street.

closed.

i thought, 'grand mission donuts will save us.' especially the female version of chairman mao.

also closed.

but then. donut world saved the night. as you can plainly see from the look on jupei's face.

addie and i were working on some modern algebra homework in the office. after finishing a couple problems we decided on a chocolate break. we were just planning on getting fro-yo until we changed to ice cream, and i saw some donuts in the display case. as you can see, we got a chocolate old-fashioned.

the quality of the chocolate is pretty decent. the cake is very moist. delicious, even.

the picture is addie with our donut on top of thornton hall. note the ocean view in the background. the weather has been phenomenal over at state.

chelsey and i spent the later part of our night perusing the enormous selection of books at green apple. this is seriously the most amazing bookstore i've ever been to.

there just happened to be a 24 hour donut place down the street (clement & 10th ave), so we headed over to yumsville.

kema had a half-day (what's new), so i stopped by christy's. i called mom & dad to ask if they wanted anything. apparently, mom is a donut hole with custard kind of gal, and my dad is a maple bar with custard kind of guy. i find it kind of cute that they both like custard. naturally, i got a chocolate old fashioned.

at least there is one thing i can share with my parents, and that is donuts.

christy's donuts

christy's is the donut place down the street from my parents' house. when i was a little kid and my dad would go to get the san jose mercury news in the morning i'd always make him get me donuts. i was prodigiously unproductive at work today and my reward for leaving early was that christy's was still open. i got the above pictured donuts, however there are two not pictured. the lady gave me TWO EXTRAS, and i ate them on the way home with glee.

i love this place.

i had been bugging paul to get donuts and so he took me to happy donuts. this place is more than just a donut shop. they have free wi-fi (how amazing!). and there are a lot of palo alto high (if you're into twinks) and stanford students milling about, and some of them are really hot.

anyway, i got a french, old-fashioned, bar, and devil's food (the first three being chocolate, naturally). i have to say that their chocolate needs to be richer. the donuts were okay. i forgot to ask paul what he thought of his, and i also forgot to take pictures. oops.

maybe we can have a happy donuts part deux kind of thing.

jen and i did some laundry at that place near insomniac. we didn't get donuts, but we got fatte's and stuffed ourselves stupid while folding some sweet ass geogami. the last picture is a woven hexahedron which i made as a get well gift for diego.

jen fits in the largest dryer.

after power hour and karaoke we all decided we wanted donuts. naomi, alex, jen and myself rode to sunshine. the donuts included: a strawberry french (naomi), old fashioned glazed and sugar (jen), cake and sugar (alex), chocolate old fashioned and chocolate french (myself).

not so all star donuts

went to this place called all star donuts & sandwich on van ness at market. they had pretty gross donuts. the french donut was really eggy, and the devil's food just had a really weird aftertaste, like some exotic spice was used in the cake. chocolate bar was bland. with those kinds of plain donuts, the chocolate really makes all the difference. you'd think donut makers would invest in top notch chocolate. what gives?

a goal over winter break will be to find a really good donut place in san francisco.

golden gate donuts

this past weekend i made a non-sunshine donut run to golden gate donuts in oakland, california. their inventory was kind of low, but they had just what i wanted: a chocolate old fashioned and a devil's food with no glaze. there was something about their chocolate that was different from sunshine. it was more ... fudge-like; it reminded me of grocery store donuts, which is great.

a simple trip to insomniac and sunshine. jen has a bro-crush on the late night insomniac guy. for once, i'm not attracted to a bro. i got nixon on vhs, and jen picked up some polanski movies. there were rumors of noah wyle in san luis, but he wasn't at sunshine. obviously clueless.

donuts, fatte's, and love, actually

possibly the longest errand of my life. a creepo couple asking the guy at border's for the "thespian section". what the hell? after ralph's, an alpha male gay couple in a big truck. a massive stache party at blockbuster, but not the movie we wanted. over to insomniac and fatte's for pizza. no movie at insomniac either but we saw rocky on his way into fatte's on our way out. finally to studio video where we scored love, actually and the holiday. the pretty boy bro dude (his name was alex and his top movie pick was gattaca) was totally a hugh grant lover and he was watching two weeks notice when we walked in. then he talked to jen about hugh for like five minutes.

then diego farted on our pizza.

eric, jen and i drove to sunshine donuts. on the way, there was an enormous (garden orb?) spider chillin' near the passenger sun shade. we had to pull over while eric grabbed a wad of kleenex to smoosh it. but the spider was more resilient than expected. eventually he threw the wad at jen who had already jumped out of the car in terror.

net results: two chocolate old fashioned, one devil's food without glaze, one chocolate bar, one chocolate bavarian cream, one sugar, and one chocolate (non-cake).
